Pipe Trench
Excavation, bedding tons, backfill and excess haul for a pipe run.
Enter pipe length to see results.
Assumptions
- Trench width defaults to pipe OD + 2 ft when left blank.
- Bedding assumed 6 in deep across the full trench width.
- Backfill subtracts the pipe volume; excess haul = excavation − backfill.
Common questions
How many tons of bedding stone do I need per foot of trench?
Trench width (ft) × 0.5 ft of bedding ÷ 27 gives cubic yards per foot; multiply by 1.4 tons per CY for stone. A 3 ft wide trench needs about 0.078 tons per foot.
