Wall Framing
Studs, plates, headers and sheathing for a run of wall at 16 or 24 in on center.
Enter wall length to see results.
Assumptions
- Field studs = length ÷ spacing + 1. Each corner adds 2 studs; each opening adds 4 (king + jack both sides).
- Headers assume a 4 ft average opening, two-ply. Nails run about 1 lb of 16d per 10 studs.
Common questions
How many studs do I need for a 40 ft wall at 16 on center?
40 × 12 ÷ 16 + 1 = 31 field studs. Add 2 per corner and 4 per door or window, then 10% waste. Two corners and two openings brings it to about 48 studs.
